THOMAS DEKKER
Thomas Dekker began making visual art at the age of six years old. His father, a fine art painter and set designer, instilled in him a deep affection for pencil drawing and charcoal sketch, visual approaches Dekker continues to use most prominently in his work to this day. His art has spanned many genres, tones and spaces but his chief interest and thematic through-line is an emphasis on forced perspective. The deliberate framing of his images creates a specific level of distance and/or closeness between the piece and the spectator, sparking questions and thoughts about why we are looking at this particular image and from what, or whose, vantage point. The literal perspective of the artist says as much about the piece as what is happening within it.
